Introducing Myself

Welcome to my office! If we are via telehealth we will be meeting just like this. I know not everyone enjoys reading long blog posts or wants to get to know me through writing. Even great writing doesn't tell you much about how I am, so I wanted to add a view videos that give you a better picture of me and my style of counseling.

I see counseling from a developmental lens. Style wise I don't discount the importance of thoughts, but I don't think focusing on thoughts alone is enough. I still use quite a bit of psychoeducation driven by current books and research. There is such a tidal wave of information on every topic that providing some education can help narrow that topic down to a manageable level and sort through what is true or relevant to you. You may not know very much about the topic itself, and so sharing that knowledge can be important. However, if we stop with psychoeducation and looking at our thoughts I think we miss the huge and obvious indicators of our body and our emotions. Even when we develop new insights we can unintentionally stop our own progress if we aren't ready to change. It is important to identify what is blocking that change that you want in your life.

Beyond that I like to see individual as a whole, drawing from my time in early education. I really value exploring where people have gotten stuck and what patterns they continue to repeat. This process is unique to you and your internal world.
